Robert has been shooting Nature photography for more than 30 years primarily in
Georgian Bay and Southern Alberta. Robert's photos have been part of a travelling exhibit for the Alberta Science Foundation and in 1995 he had an exhibit at the Calgary Science Centre. Robert's photographs have been published in scientific journals, book covers and and most recently IMPACT Magazine. He has received a Nikon International award and many local photography awards. He uses both 35 mm cameras and a TOYO 4 x 5 field camera to capture his photographs. Robert prints his own photographs and for many years his choice was Illfochrome. However, all his prints are now produced using an Epson 2000P professional inkjet printer which produces more brilliant color, finer definition and boasts an archival lifespan of 160-200 years. Robert is the Director of Science & Art Multimedia, a web design company in Calgary, Alberta since 1996. Prior to owning his own business, Robert worked as Manager at the Calgary Science Centre for 5 years and prior to this - 12 years as a Cell Biologist at the Universities of Alberta and Calgary. All Robert's nature photographs have been scanned from 35 mm slides taken in the field using standard camera equipment. The character of the image has not been significantly modified through the use of the computer. All animal photos are of wild animals, none are of captive or of rehabilitated animals. Any manipulation in the computer was confined to the same techniques that might be used in the darkroom i.e. burning, dodging, dust spot removal and color enhancement through the use of masks.
